Intel Skipping Vista, Not Christmas

I have heard this statement several times today about how Intel, Microsoft's good buddy, will not be upgrading their own PC's to Vista!

Here is the link to one of the articles. There is some speculation that Windows 7 may have an impact on the wait. Some would have us believe that Intel would go extinct if the massive bugs in Vista were unleashed upon the Intel populace.

I wonder what OS AMD uses in their machines? Probably Ubuntu...

Gizmodo Writer Explains Why He Still Uses Windows XP

This article was actually really well written and thought out in my opinion. I know there tends to be a huge rift between OS X people and XP people and this may help shed some light on why.

The author does not bash Apple, or even condemn some of their more insidious acts. Nor does he bash Windows (XP anyways.)

If you are curious as to why one individual refuses to jump ship to Mac, read the article.

Firefox 3: Did you get it?

Just curious as to how many folks out there were a part of the 14 million...yes 14 million, users who downloaded FireFox 3.

for those of you who haven't, it's well worth a spin. It's free and has a much smaller footprint than FireFox 2 and even IE 7. Not too shabby...

Also, has anyone encountered issues with the new FireFox?

Asus Prices the Eee PC Out Of Its Own Market

I had a feeling this was going to happen given the trend of Asus's pricing on newer models.

According to Gizmodo's site, the new Asus Eee PC is gonna run you about $600 for XP or Linux models. That's the start of the price mark, going up to around $650 for the 1000H model.

At this price, why not buy a nice HP or Compaq or shoot, even Dell laptop? I am not sure what Asus's game plan is, but I think it's mildly ignorant of what the original 2G Surf was designed for.

Maybe it's just me. What do you think?

iPhone 3G

The new and improved 3G iPhone seems to be what quite a few folks thought the first iPhone should have been.

With 3G network access, built in GPS, better battery life and more enterprise or business features, this iPhone will challenge the Blackberry...seriously.

I am still a little skeptical on the exclusivity of At&t. I have never thought that was a good idea. Even though the overall price of the phone has dropped, to around &299, the cost of the monthly plan must to, in my opinion.

Also, what happens to iPhone v1.0 owners? Will they be shunned and discarded when At&t switches over completely to the 3G network, disabling EDGE? Will they be able to opt out of their contracts or can they get some perk, like a discount on a iPhone, for being the first of the faithful?

We shall all be watching the Apple news releases for any glimmer of information about these happenings. Hoping with bated breath that they tell us something...useful...

Super Computer Sets Processing Record

An IBM Super Computer once again broke the processing record with a recorded 1.026 quadrillion calculations per second.

That's some serious crunching, even for a super computer. IBM also owned the previous record.

The article states that the super computer runs 116,640 processor cores! DAMN!

OS X 10.6 Named?

An article posted at Gizmodo claims that the next OS X release will be 10.6, named "Snow Leopard."
Most updates will be minor fixes and tweaks. My question is: Is this the same thing as a Windows Service Pack? It sure does sound like it? What do you think?

AMD Jumps Into Ultraportables With Low-Cost and High Performance Models

According to Gizmodo's site, AMD will be jumping into the low cost UMPC market with a model of their own.

The specs are as stated on the Giz site "These versions include a white 8.9-inch version with an AMD CPU, ATI's RS690 chipset, 1GB RAM and the Linux operating system along with a 7-inch black XP version featuring a 1280 x 600 display (possibly touchscreen) a 60GB or 80GB hard drive, and 1GB of RAM. Details are still sketchy at the moment, but more should be revealed in the next few days." [Gizmodo]

This market is getting pretty exciting pretty fast. I expect Intel to make a new formal announcement in the near future. Can't be outdone by AMD now can we!

Acer Gets Ready To Kick Asus!

These sweet looking UMPC's are on the ballot to challenge the current "King" of the UMPC and low cost laptop world...Asus.

The specs are nice (8.9" display, 1GB RAM and either 8GB Flash or 80GB HD) and a price tag that's' sweet to, around $380.

The system runs Linpus Linux Lite. Hopefully there will be an XP model eventually.
